Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 349 12/02/08 Here's what 29 years of marriage looks like! This shot was taken by Sam with my G9! SOOC! Steve treated me to a very lovely dinner out at an Italian restaurant we had never been to before. The food was really good ( Mmmm mussels Fra Diavlo) and the staff very friendly...nice neighborhood sort of place!

Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 348 12/1/08 My apologies on this one!

As I was on my way to work this morning I was thinking about my photo of the day. I had taken this one on Friday, yes, "Black Friday", so I just uploaded it directly from the phone, but didn't have time to write a caption until now..about 7:30PM. Anyway, I had a doctor's appt that morning near our local mall and the parking lot was not too busy so we decided to take a chance and we were ready for lunch, too! This was shot with my iPhone and though the angle was a little more severe than I would have wanted, I liked the angle of the railing....it was a very busy mall food court. As we left our table someone was right there ready to take it and thanked us for the prime real estate!!!!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 347 11/30/08 "The Leftover Buffet" Day after Thanksgiving gathering!

My sister-in-law has a tradition of inviting all her close friends and their children to come to her house the evening after Thanksgiving and 'pool' their leftovers. Everyone has their family Thanksgivings, then this is the friend's Thanksgiving... All the kids are now out of college, there were new girlfriends and boyfriends who came. a couple who was just married in early October, one daughter who was married a year ago announced she is pregnant, one dear friend lost her battle with ovarian cancer just a month ago so her husband and son were without her. The full gamut of life is played out with the intertwining of their lives and friendships....It was lovely to be part of it all.
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > post 347 11/29/08 Thanksgiving night. Went with my sister-in-law to help care for her neighbor's cat and I caught this shot. Very low light and rather grainy, but I liked it! Very busy and will catchup when I can! Hugs!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 346 11/28/08 The Turkey with stuffing pic!

Well, while we took our walk yesterday, this bird was roasting in the oven. Even though we went to Steve's sister's for T-Day dinner I did make the full gamut of Thanksgiving traditions to have at home, too. This shot is of the stuffing in the turkey so you can see what I was referring to the other day. Stuffing made with Wheatena, Oatmeal, etc... Funny, I couldn't find my recipe for some strange reason and sort of lamented about it on my Facebook page. My sister-in-law when hunting for a few hours and saved the day. She called me at 11 o'clock Wed night that she had found it...What a great call that was! All's well that ends well....
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 345 11/27/08 My guy Steve...I am so thankful for him.

We went for a little walk just to get out of the house before the afternoon festivities begin at his sister's home. This was just a little test shot to see if I wanted to use the 50mm 1.4 if I am going to take some photos today. Not really Steve's best smile as I sort of caught him by surprise, but I still liked the photo and I wanted to post my thoughts in honor of him....

Sometimes holidays are just hard. I have a tendency to miss who is not here and not really just enjoy who is...not really the right thing to do, but I think, I am not the only one who does that. Steve is so patient when my mood is less than it should be and for all that I am thankful for, I am especially thankful that he is my partner in my life. Our 29th wedding anniversary will be on Tuesday, Dec 2nd...it has all gone so fast, I hope we will be fortunate to have another 29 years ahead!

My best wishes to all of you for a Happy Thankgiving!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 344 11/25/08 From my iPhone...
My boss, Dr. H is a little camera shy so when I was showing off my iPhone and how it takes neat pictures and directly loads them to the Internet he became a bit uncooperative...he did agree to allow me to post this as my photo of the day, though! I did a slight color correction and sharpening in SmugMug using the picnik.com tool for the first time since I am here at work. Nice result, I think!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 343 11/24/08 The family secret.....

Actually, it is not really a secret. I often share this nature of this recipe with people, just nobody ever really asked me for the whole recipe. These are the key ingredients to my mother's turkey stuffing recipe. Most people use bread or croutons or cornbread for the base of their turkey stuffing. My mother used "mixed grains" as she used to say. It is made much like any other stuffing, but instead of bread I use Oatmeal, Wheatena and Matzo Meal (crushed Jewish Matzoh crackers more or less if you don't know what it is) as the base. I don't know of anyone who makes this kind of stuffing, but for a once a year treat I always love to make it...we are not even eating home this year. We are going to Steve's sister's, but I will make our own turkey on Thanksgiving anyway so we will have leftovers to enjoy. What would Thanksgiving be without the smell of cooking in the house that day and leftovers to savor for a few days or so!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 342 11/23/08 A nothing special shot, but interesting in contrast to the following shot...
http://www.shorpy.com/node/4959?size=_original

Steve loves this website called shorpy.com with old photos and though this one in particular is a newer shot (1964) it is very interesting to look at. Much is the same, but this store we ran into yesterday was sure not so busy!
