Post 691 6.4.10 Guess who wanted to try the coconut 'milk'??? This was the way he offered the drink to us...Machete off the top...poke a hole, insert straw....drink! It was very pleasant...not sweet, but slightly coconut in flavor..it was fun! The excitement of this shot was that I handed over my camera to a young man who was chatting with us a little there...never totally sure I should do that, but he took the picture and not my camera. That can be a dodgy situation when traveling, but it was fine in the end! Thank you all for such enthusiastic comments on my pics so far from the trip..it has been a busy week and I have still not only not seen all of my pictures, I haven't uploaded them all...Tomorrow I have a very wonderful opportunity to shoot Dragon Boat Racing in Philadelphia...It will be ALL Day sooooo I don't know how many more images that will mean on the boards for me to process. All fun, though, that is for sure! Photo credit to the unnamed young man peeking behind the head of the young boy drinking from a plastic bag in yesterday's shot! He caught us well, I thought!
Post 690 6.3.10 Coconut 'milk' to go! While walking our first day in Guadalajara we came upon a fellow with a cart piled high with green coconuts...not quite what we are used to seeing here in the US. The vendor would chop off the top of the coconut with a machete then pour the 'milk' into a plastic bag, tuck in a straw and offer it to drink like this young fellow is doing. Or he pokes the straw into the coconut and offers it for refreshment that way. Anyway, then he hacks away the rest of the husk and scoops out the coconut meat and slices it into large chunks. For the locals he squeeze on lots of lime, some salt and cayenne for a 'kick'... We had it too, but he declined to sprinkle the 'kick' on ours..it was good, but softer and more bland than the fresh coconut I have had..I think the coconut was greener which made the difference...It was fun and this family was delightful in encouraging us to have a try..."very refreshing", they said and "healthy", too!
post 689 6.2.10 A most amazing market in Guadalajara, Mexico....the destination of our recent trip over the Memorial Day weekend.. we were away for 5 days and really explored quite a bit of Guadalajara with side trips to Lake Chapala, Ajijic, Tlaquepaque and TonolÄ Mexico.... Very colorful country with gentle kind people... I have not been posting much in the last few weeks, but hope to post on photos as I work on them going forward... I also have a few photo ops coming up in the next weeks so I hope to keep up better with the Dailies...I really miss you guys and the inspiration of your wonderful photography!!!
